As I wake today to a dreary morning, I greet the family with my usual sleepy eyes and stumble to the coffee pot for the first cup of the day.
The one constant to every morning is the greeting I receive from our two shih-tzus, Britta and Dylan. If dogs could smile, these guys would be BEAMING!
They certainly help me get every day off to a great start and serve as a reminder of the importance that positivity plays in my role as a dad, a husband and President and CEO of my firm PrintWorks & Company, Inc.
As a businessman and marketing expert, I know that people respond to positive messages well. But it goes deeper than that. Positive people live longer. Optimism and positive sales people sell more. Positive folks can maintain a broader perspective on life, and see the big picture more clearly, and positive leaders are able to make better decisions under pressure. I try to lead my team in that manner, and I believe they shine.
As a dad and husband, it’s incumbent on me to set the tone for each and every day. The well being of our family depends on it. My 14 and 16 year old daughter and son need to know that regardless of what happens, everything will work out because we choose to see it that way.
What an opportunity each day brings! An opportunity for adding something to someone else’s day. An opportunity to grow in my profession or my faith. An opportunity learn something. Teach something. Inspire someone. Fulfill a goal. Tell someone I love them. Make my tiny little mark on the world, not for my sake, but for the good of others.
A mentor of mine, Jim Rohn, uttered these words that have resounded with me through the years, “The same wind blows on us all. It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go.” In other words, we get to CHOOSE how each day goes!
I can’t think of a much more positive thought.
What do you choose for your life?
